Review: 2019 Concha y Toro Gran Reserva Malbec

Sometimes we'll watch wine review videos on YouTube or Instagram and laugh. No one would ever stick around to watch us old goats bleat on about this sort of stuff. So we do it here. On Blogger. Like in the late 90s. Sticking around Chile again (we promise this will be the last week for now) for a 2019 offering from Concha y Toro in the Colchagua Valley, which forms the southwestern half of the larger Rapel Valley region from which yesterday's review emerged. Curious to see if there are many similarities going on here. Let's find out.

Nose: The raspberry and red fruit influence is present, but not as strong as the Santa Carolina. From the onset, it's much sweeter, with red twizzler and floral notes on subsequent passes. With time, the floral note picks up and the fruit recedes slightly. Almost like a fruit pie cooling after baking.

Palate: Cherry and raspberry, but a wave of chocolate comes up right behind and takes hold. Very firm tannins and low acidity that diminishes with time.

Finish: Long, the chocolate crosses over to dark cherry and there's some earthen influence that pops up towards the end. Nothing really too shocking or inconsistent to be found. Pleasant.

Very well-balanced and structured. I think we may have found the good stuff.
