Review: 2019 Colomé El Arenal Single Vineyard Malbec

No real theme on which to speak this week. Going to be a random assortment of Malbecs from various places and vintages. We're in the process of shopping, trading, and accumulating a bunch of French Malbecs for later weeks, so be on the lookout for that coming soon for sure. But for now, we head to one of our favorite vineyards for a higher-end release. This was purchased on a trip to NYC recently. and there are high hopes this lives up to the price point. Let us find out.

Nose: Cassis and blackberry, dried cherries and a bit of leather. As it sits the blackberry gets a bit strong and the leather expands.

Palate: Decent acidity and tannins, comes in with more dark fruit than on the nose and some tobacco leaf. A bit more spice than I had originally anticipated and a soft touch of chocolate towards the finish.

Finish: Layered in black fruit (blackberry, plum) that eases into a hint of smoke over time.

This most certainly did not disappoint. This is a perfect bottle for a special occasion on a fall evening, especially with wedding season in full swing. Outstanding.
