Review: 2019 Duck Walk Malbec

Alright. Let's wrap up the week with another review. It feels as if we are breaking an earlier promise to deliver more features than reviews, or at least have a balance, but it also seems as if there's very little news to report other than numerous listicles. So let's head north closer to home base, specifically Water Mill, NY which is a short distance from my current whereabouts until the next spurt of business travel forces me back to La Guardia or JFK.

Water Mill is a charming little area, and if you plan correctly, you can avoid all of the absolutely insufferable city folk during the summer months. Also of note: if sushi is your thing, I endorse a trip to  Kissaki. I quite enjoyed Duck Walk's Gatsby Red blend at a gathering earlier this summer, and felt it was finally time to open this one up for some air. Let's get down to it.

Nose: Mild note of ripe plum with some light mineral touches running through it on first pass. Some time and air deliver a shift from sweet to savory and faint notes of tobacco leaf and menthol emerge.

Palate: Approachable and easy, arriving as advertised by the nose. There's minimal oak and summer herbs appear in the background. The menthol is much more pronounced towards the end.

Finish: Long and savory. The plum builds and then quickly retreats to let dark cherry finish the job.

Based on the Gatsby Red, I had high hopes for this bottle and was not disappointed. I'm not even fully sure if any malbec is currently available, but this is one to put on the watch list.

$35 (I think)
