Review: 2019 Atrevida Malbec

Here is the first part of a two-shot deal this week from Atrevida. Unable to find much on the vineyard via Google, other than it originates from the Los Chacayes area of Mendoza. For reasons passing understanding, there's minimal publicity on the brand, which makes me wonder if it's a contract bottling from one of the larger vineyards in the area. Vines of Mendoza provides a very detailed breakdown.

This week we open two vintages: 2019 and the most recent 2020 which arrived at my local shop less than a month ago. So let's get to it.

Nose: A very astringent, medicinal cherry start that eventually takes on an earthy aspect over time. Some chocolate in there too along with some baking spices that make matters much more inviting with each pass. Eventually the cherry syrup pushes its way back to the forefront.

Palate: Approachable and uncomplicated, decent texture with easy tannins and minimal acidity. The fruit keeps expanding and a bit of oak influence pops up towards the finish. Nothing much else happening here of note.

Finish: Long and thankfully the medicinal component of the cherry note dissipates with great speed. A surprising bit of oak from the palate keeps on going.

I wasn't expecting miracles with this bottle, nor anything other than a serviceable glass, and my suspicions proved correct.
