Review: Skeleton Malbec

Oddly enough, we are coming up on our 100th review shortly. Only 9,900 to go! In these first 85 or so reviews, we've learned quite a bit about what to do and what not to do. We've also lost four writers along the way but this is all for fun and games anyways, right? We'll celebrate with something special on review 100.

Today, though, we are rocking economically with one that's under $10 at our local store. I can not find any information other than this Malbec originates from Mendoza, so we are kind of flying blind when it comes to critical details.

Unsurprisingly, it has most of the characteristics expected from a Mendoza offering: lots of plummy and dark floral notes on the nose, and a little bit of dark fruit with some time in the glass. The nose construction carries onwards to the palate, which has a bit of acidity and spice but nothing overbearing or untoward. There's a little bit of oak on the long finish, and really that about sums it up. Very much as "advertised" but anyone expecting miracles for a $10 1L bottle needs to get their priorities in check. This will do nicely in a pinch or bringing to a gathering with people who don't know good Malbec.

$9 for a 1L bottle.
