Review: 2021 Santa Julia + Malbec

2021 Santa Julia Plus Malbec

We had to look up the answer to my burning question "what or why the plus?" and apparently it is supposed to represent "the four strengths of the winery: innovation, respect for the environment, quality, and our contribution to the community that surrounds us." (quote from their site)

Okay. One of our former right honorable anonymous colleagues had a bad experience with this particular brand earlier in the year, but at $12 I reasoned it was worth a second chance. Especially if the Plus component shines through.

Medium-bodied with blackberry and dark cherry as opening notes on the nose, and strawberry sweetness dominating on the palate. It never threatens to veer into viscous or syrupy territories and is tempered nicely by a touch of oak and campfire. The finish is somewhat short with cherry and eucalyptus seeing things off. I'm still not seeing the whole Plus concept, but that's probably a matter best left to people smarter than people who blog about wine.
