Review: 2017 Lenz Estate Selection Malbec

2017 Lenz Estate Selection Malbec

We really aren't traveling anywhere this summer because it appears that COVID is in the midst of a full-throated comeback tour, with a fresh new variant that is sending rates through the roof again. However, that's not discouraging retired in-laws from heading up East/New England way for a delightful 3-week tour of the sights. After an appropriate incubation period, we gathered to look at some lovely photos and cracked open several bottles from this fine Long Island winery -- Peconic, for those keeping score at home. I admire how they find these places.

Lively on the nose, with plum up front and notes of baking spice and gentle minerality underneath. The sweetness takes a back seat on the palate, with the fruit influence tipping the scales in a major fashion, holding on tightly throughout a dominant and long finish.

At $45 I'm not sure I would have taken this out of the tasting room, but it's still a serviceable bottle to share with family.

$45 USD
