Review: 2019 Monteviejo Festivo

2019 Monteviejo Festivo

One of the main stores in the city has closed. A casualty of COVID or greedy landowners is still up for debate. I haven’t been able to make it over that way in a hot second, but it’s getting to the point where the options are driving fifty miles to find a decent shopkeep, or sitting curbside drinking table wine red blend directly from a bottle while walking around the neighborhood in tears. Happy mediums are for chumps and fans of Candace Cameron Bure.

There’s a clearance sale going on, and my aim is to acquire as many discount bottles as possible. More of these purchases will be reviewed as we grind onward through the summer months. But I also grabbed the final bottle of this Uco from the Wu-Taub Clan portfolio of labels.

Can say with great confidence there’s nothing in this bottle that will induce an epiphany. An impressive blend of forest and tobacco on the palate delivered a Donald Fagen-brand smirk to my face. It had a little bit of a tannic attack towards the finish, but the harshness of the oak kept me from enjoying another glass. It may be best to put this one away for a few years and be in awe of its improvement. It’s a shame there was a singular bottle remaining.
