Review: 2018 El Enemigo Malbec

2018 El Enemigo Malbec

I've been on a bit of a tear and I need to cool it out. Inflation has started to put a dent in my cellar (such as it is), and demand is far exceeding replenishing supply. Case in point: I was planning on holding on to this El Enemigo for another year or so before opening, but it's simply too tempting to pass up and there is no promise that we won't all be extinguished in a year's time. That's what is come to my mind: no holding, drink now or forever hold peace with not knowing.

Letting this one sit for a bit is a solid move, as the oak and punchy resin note subsides to a pleasant floral note. The palate shows a solid Malbec construction of blackberry, minerality, and oak that leads to a lovely finish.

In the end, nothing really matters. We're all going to die one way or another. But for two glasses this helps to dull the day-to-day suffering and provide some much-needed comfort. Pick up two bottles and see if you can live long enough to let this one age.
