Review: Woodbridge Mondavi Malbec

In an attempt to keep our review section accessible and affordable to everyone, we are doing another week of budget line review briefs covering wines that may be a bit more in agreement with bank accounts, as gas prices continue to gnaw away and everyone's expendable income.

The quality behind the name Mondavi is wildly proportionate to the sticker price. There are some Mondavi bottles that are worth every penny of the $8 shelled out, others worthy of higher asking prices. This is no exception. This is very much a "what you see is what you get" affair: well balanced, medium-bodied malbec full of fruit (cherry, blackberry) and is wholly uncomplicated. Something of note: this says Californian, but it's made in Chile. Which, in all honesty, seems accurate. It's a fine bottle: one that does the job while watching sports.
