Review: 2019 Maipe Malbec Reserve

2019 Maipe Malbec Reserve

A stand-up, plum-driven, Malbec which gets its fruit on upfront, with loads of depth interlocking between plum and black cherry giving way to some cracked pepper as it develops on the palate. There's a recurring minerality that builds throughout and becomes intrusive by the end. The experience finishes with a tannin-heavy blackberry note that melds into an almost soy-sauce character that whisks things away rather quickly. It's very peculiar, but a fun ride to experience.
