Review: 2017 El Enemigo Malbec

2017 El Enemigo

Getting down to brass tacks, this is a straight-ahead, full-bodied signature Mendoza that lets the plum go off upfront, with notes of dark chocolate and cherry giving away as oak and black berry develop on the palate. There are moderate notes of pepper throughout but it really doesn't deviate much from the script here, but it's nuanced enough that it doesn't end up being unforgettable or boring. It finishes nicely, if not too soon, and pairs well with a nicely cooked steak. May want to hang on to this for another year, though.
