At $40, it is a bit more expensive than I would have preferred to pay, especially as:
- this is domestic-grade malbec, which rarely ends well
- this is from Michigan and I've never had a Michigan malbec prior to this
And much like other wines of Michigan, this is very fruit-forward with notes of dark cherry and cranberry with a mild oak influence. As the palate develops it shifts towards cranberry and bright notes of strawberry, tempered with light tannins and some acidity. A slightly astringent finish of raspberry and a touch of pepper. A bottle for curiosity seekers and those looking for an interesting variant on a traditional Malbec construction.
