Review: 2020 Altaland Malbec Mendoza

Another installment in the seemingly endless conversation that the Catena family carries on with Argentina. A high-altitude wine that's Malbec/Petit blend that carries some great Dadaist illustration on the label. Normally I hesitate to carry on a conversation about label work but I do enjoy a well laid out, engaging label and this certainly checks the box.

Driven by your expected dark fruit parade of dark cherry, chocolate, blackberry, and blueberry, things turn on their head with the development of chestnut honey and a soft touch of vanilla. It never veers off into a complication or an identity crisis. For something to sip on to celebrate spring's proper arrival, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Can't scoff at the price point, either.
