Review: 2013 Zolo Black Malbec

2013 Zolo Black Malbec

Maturation: 80% French, 20% American Oak Barrels over 18 months

Nose: Darjeeling tea, blackberry
Palate: Spice, Toasted bread, Well-balanced, fine tannins, and a whole mess of oak and dark berry. Slightly syrupy.

Finish: A bit on the dry side, the oak hangs around just enough to keep it interesting, not too acidic

Comments: I am always a bit skeptical whenever someone comes out with a “black” iterative of whatever product they are in the market selling. Sometimes it works well, other times it just falls flat on its face (looking at you, Milky Way Dark). But this wasn’t awful. It did the job I could see pairing this with a felled creature procured during hunting season if you have the dough to cough up. And if you are reading this site, oh clientele of distinction and honor, chances are you do.
