Review: 2018 Achaval-Ferrer Malbec Mendoza

2018 Achaval-Ferrer Malbec Mendoza

There are parallels here that are worth the attention. Much like ourselves, Achaval-Ferrer is a team of friends who dream about great wines. Or so the biography says. But we are a team, and teams respect teams unless you are talking about the Pistons and Celtics. Or Pistons and Bulls. Or Pistons and Pacers. One person the Pistons of 2021 would like is the 2018 Gustavo Rearte, because his work here is youthful but full of promise. Earlier expressions were too eucalyptus and menthol heavy, but matters have settled down a bit and we’re left with blueberry and light plum leading to a blackberry-driven body that’s dense and savory. They’ve come a long way, and there’s a lot of promise in-store. Buy it and stash a few bottles to open when the Pistons reach the NBA finals in 2024.
