Some of us in the tribe have the expendable income to scale the highest of Andes in the Uco Valley, swigging from a bottle of Chanares Estate in Patagonia gear. Others of us live a more modest, humble means pecking away at the bottom shelf whenever time allows. Not complaining, as I do live a good life and I am thankful for what I have. I just can’t dig deep into the pockets for a bottle.
So any time there’s a value worth fighting for in these columns, best believe I
will blag on about it. I don’t know much on this and can’t be bothered looking
at a tech sheet right now. I can’t even be bothered to edit that last sentence,
so why would I bore you with specs other than what I know: this is a Malbec,
it’s been aged 6 months in American and French oak. And it’s really good. I
could end the review just at this point and not care, really. But it’s strange
because I don’t get the oak here. What I DO get is raspberry and pepper on the
nose, with a hefty dose of blackberry and tobacco leaf on the palate. If you
were to show up at my door to watch a Champions League match where PSG
implodes, this is probably what I would pour you. Because it’s affordable and
it’s delicious.
