Review: 2012 Tres 14 Imperfecto Malbec

2012 Tres 14 Imperfecto Malbec

The upside of having your kid attending a Spanish immersion elementary school: meeting parents from South America who are only too happy to share things they bring back from family visits. This one was opened at a recent dinner party, and I was only too happy to partake in a glass. I’m not sure how readily available this is stateside. (Edit: after a quick search, it seems like not much makes its way here)

Which is a shame really because this is burly as hell and deserves wider recognition. It’s a blend of cab franc and malbec that has the lightness of a cab with the spice of a malbec. Full-bodied and earthy with a generous heft of pepper, blackberry, and oak. The finish is incredibly long and satisfying, with the pepper hanging out for an unreasonable amount of time, but that’s certainly not a complaint, either.

I don’t have the slightest clue why any distributor or importer would pay attention to us, but if they’re out there listening, try and get wider distribution for this. It is quite lovely.

$65 USD (?)
