Review: 2019 BenMarco Malbec

2019 BenMarco Malbec

I am grasping at straws on how to start this particular piece. There are only so many narrative roads one can travel upon before falling prey to well-worn trope traps. I think my intention here is to just lay back and keep my form unfolding in an organic fashion, with a little bit of coaching for pepper here and there.

If my admiration and slight starstruck crush for Ms. Balbo wasn’t already evident, it will be by the time this is done. I mean she wanted to go into nuclear physics and was the first woman in Argentina to receive a degree in Enology. I didn’t even know colleges offered degrees in studying Roxy Music (drum shot, tug shirt collar).

Anyways, I read the 2018 posted earlier and having never dug into BenMarco/Ben Marco, I felt it was time. This is 100% Uco Valley Malbec, aged 11 months in 100% 2nd fill French Oak.  And I’m going to present my tasting notes haiku style:

Plum blackberry oak
Oak violets with big tannins
Light acidity

There’s a 2016 on sale across town. I may have to go pick it up.
