Review: 2018 Luca Old Vine Malbec

2018 Luca Old Vine Malbec

In keeping with a recent streak of excess, I went hog wild at the store the other day and pick up not one but three cases. This led to the cashier asking if there was a big Malbec party hitting down for the big football game happening Saturday, to which I replied “which football, English Premiere or La Liga?” and boy howdy did he look puzzled.

Among the purchases was this 2018 and it was an absolute stunner. Everything you could possibly want from a darker Malbec in one glass: loads of dark berries and chocolate, oak and leather all on the nose with a spicy palate of cinnamon and pepper with blackberry that is held together through a medium finish. Well balanced and far from dull, this may be one of the favorites of 2021.
